Authentic Hummus RecipeBasic Hummus
The Authentic Hummus Recipe has its origins in the Middle East. Chickpeas and sesame, the crops from which hummus's main ingredients are taken, were known and cultivated in the ancient Mediterranean. Hummus is a creamy puree of chickpeas and tahini (sesame seed paste) seasoned with lemon juice and garlic and is naturally low in fat. As an appetizer and dip hummus is scooped with flatbread such as pita. Of course, you can dip just about anything into hummus. We usually serve it with a combination of crackers and raw veggies. We have listed two garlic cloves in this recipe. Hummus isn't an exact science, so you can add as much garlic as you like.
