This is our favorite bacon appetizer. Bacon Cheddar Spread is for all of your guests that love that cheddar cheese and bacon flavor combination.
So far, we haven't found anyone that doesn't like this dip. The flavor combination of bacon, cheese, onion and Ranch dressing is irresistible.
You can use any creamy salad dressing you like. For a sweeter taste you could use Thousand Island Dressing. Whichever one you choose, just remember to add the dressing a little at a time and then taste after you stir. Some dressings can over power the spread and then all you taste is dressing.
You can serve it in a bowl with crackers for spreading or put it into vegetable cups that you can easily make for a unique and colorful display. For example, you could put this dip into some hollowed out cherry tomatoes for a bite sized explosion of flavor.
Bacon Cheddar Recipe
Ingredients:
- 10 slices bacon
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon grated onion
- 1 cup creamy salad dressing (Ranch works well)
Preparation:
- Cook bacon until crispy and crumble into small pieces.
- In a medium bowl, mix together crumbled bacon, Cheddar cheese, grated onion and creamy salad dressing.
- Place into a serving bowl and sprinkle some grated cheddar cheese on top.
- Chill in the refrigerator approximately 1 hour before serving.
Cooking bacon is easier and faster in the microwave. We use a bacon cooking tray made especially for the microwave. Cooking time for the bacon will depend on your microwave and how many strips of bacon you cook at one time. Experiment with 1 minute per slice and check to see how crispy they are.
Also: Put a paper towel over the bacon when cooking it, this will help absorb some of the grease and stop it from spattering all over the microwave. After cooking 3 or 4 trays, check the grease level in the cooking tray and pour into an empty jar or can with a tight lid. Careful the grease will be hot.
