Candied Pecans

Candied Pecans

Candied Pecans
are delicious and really easy to make. I like to munch on them with a cup of coffee.

We can’t make enough of them for parties, they disappear very quickly. "Pecans Candy" as my three year old refers to them, can be made ahead of time and put into a sealed bag for storage or they can be served immediately after they have cooled out of the oven.

The recipe calls for using cinnamon for flavor but we also add some ground nutmeg.

Candied Pecans Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 - egg white
  • 1- tablespoon water
  • 1 - pound pecan halves
  • 1- cup white sugar
  • 3/4 - teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 - teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Grease one baking sheet.

In a mixing bowl, whip together the egg white and water until frothy.

In a Ziploc bag, mix together sugar, salt, and cinnamon.

Add pecans to egg whites, stir to coat the nuts evenly.

Remove the nuts, put them in the Ziploc bag and toss them in the sugar mixture until coated.

Spread the nuts out on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake at 250 degrees F (120 degrees C) for 1 hour. Stir them around gently every 15 minutes.

Candied Pecan Tip:

If you have the time, make an extra batch of Candy Pecans for your guests to take home. Wrap a handful in some colored plastic wrap and tie the top with a ribbon.

Let's face it, Americans are fat all year round, but the holidays are when we really hit our stride. And you can bet the food we eat will be just as unhealthy as the families we're forced to visit.
