Caramel Apple Recipe
How To Make Gourmet Caramel Apples

Nothing is more traditional around Halloween than making Caramel Apples and this Caramel Apple Recipe is one that our kids really love to help make. You can make these the envy of your neighborhood by starting off with the basic recipe and then rolling them in your favorite ground up toppings.
How about coating your apples in some ground up Oreo's or Chocolate Chip cookies. Just put the cookies in a sealable bag and crush them in the bag. There's no limit to what you can use. Everyone will think you bought them at a gourmet candy shop.
Here are some toppings suggestions:

- Ground up Oreo Cookies
- Ground up Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Ground up Peanut Butter Cookies
- Miniature Marshmallows
- Coarsely chopped peanuts or pecans
- Mini M&M's

- Chopped Peanut Butter Cups
- Ground up Pretzels
- Ground up Toffee
- Raisins
- Craisins
- Sprinkles

Wash and dry apples thoroughly so that caramel adheres to the apple peel.
Caramel Apples
Ingredients:
- 6 Granny Smith apples
- 6 popsicle sticks
- 1 (14 oz.) package of individually wrapped caramels
- 2 Tblspns water
- 1/2 tspn vanilla extract

Preparation:
- If you are going to roll your caramel apples in toppings then get those ready by putting them into small bowls or plates.
- Insert popsicle sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple.
- Cover a large plate or cookie sheet with wax paper.
- Cover cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray
- Place apples on the cookie sheet
- Add water and unwraped caramels in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until caramel melts and is smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla.
- Take off heat
- Dip apples into melted caramel and coat apple evenly, use a spoon to coat them if you need to. Allow excess caramel to drip off.
- Scrape off bottoms of apples with a popsicle stick and roll into bowls filled with different toppings and then place on a plate or cookie sheet covered with wax paper.
- Refrigerate at least 1 hour or until ready to serve.
