Drunken Goat Cheese
So what's with the name 'Drunken Goat'? Are the goats fed wine and sent off to stumble across the fields of Spain. Nope! The name refers to the cheese being dunked into a sumptuous red wine.
This incredible goat cheese is made in the village of Jumilla in the Murcia region of Spain. This area has a typical Mediterranean climate and beautiful landscape that is known for its hot summers and mild winters. The Murcia region is famous for its Doble Pasta wine, and its goat's milk. Murciana goats make the milk for this cheese. It's high in fat and protein giving this cheese its wonderful creaminess. Drunken Goat is aged for a short time before being soaked in the Doble Pasta wine for Seventy Two hours. Soaking the cheese in winne adds flavor to the cheese and gives a vivid violet color to the rind.
After the cheese has soaked in the wine, it's then aged for 75 days to allow full maturation and blending of the cheese and wine flavors. You can expect to smell and taste the wine in the cheese. The flavor begins mild and creamy, but finishes with a tangy sweetness and a fruity grape aroma. Serve it with light fruity red and white wines.
