Easy Grilled Shrimp

This is an Easy Grilled Shrimp recipe. Some of you may know it by the name; Shrimp on the Barbie.
Putting the shrimp on skewers or in a flat grilling basket is highly recommended when grilling. The reason for doing this is they cook very quickly and if you have them laid out individually on the grill you won't be able to turn all of them over in time to keep from over-cooking. Plus, they have a tendency to fall between the grates.
Many people send emails asking how to cook shrimp. They are best cooked quickly over a medium heat. They are done when the entire outside surface has turned pink. Most shrimp you buy starts out gray, almost blue and turns pink as it cooks. Once the skin surface of the shrimp no longer shows any of its original color it's done. |
Preparation:
Pre-heat your grill on medium heat.
Peel and devaine your shrimp. Most farm raised shrimp come already devained.
Place shrimp on skewers like in the photo above, going through the shrimp twice.
Note: if you are using wooden skewers then you will need to soak them in water for 30 minutes so they don't catch on fire over the grill.
Once you have all of your shrimp mounted on skewers then place them on a plate and spray with oil on both sides. This will keep the shrimp from sticking to the grill and help the seasoning to adhere.
Lightly sprinkle shrimp with your favorite seasoning on both sides.
Note: be careful that your seasoning doesn't have mostly salt in it. I used a seasoned salt one time and all we could taste is the salt.
Place the skewers on the pre-heated grill and cook on both sides until the flesh has turned white. They will cook very quickly. On most grills it will take 10-15 minutes. If you cook them too long they will turn into rubber.
