Easy Guacamole

Guacamole

You can buy prepared guacamole in the grocery store if you are pressed for time or you can make your own easy guacamole.

We like ours freshly made and now that we know how to make guacamole ourselves, the store bought kind just won't cut it.

If you want to add some color to the dish then you could mix in some chopped tomato and then save some to add to the top as a colorful garnish.

Oh, by the way, if you don’t want to prepare a fresh jalapeño yourself you can get chopped jalapeños in a jar at your grocery store.

Guacamole Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium ripe Haas avocados
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 or 2 cloves of garlic (depends on your taste for garlic)
  • 4 chopped scallions white part only
  • ½ cup of finely chopped cilantro
  • 1 small jalapeno chile, seeded, deveined, and minced. (see deveining jalapeños below)

Preparation:

  1. in a medium-mixing bowl, mash the avocado with a fork. You want a partially smooth and partially chunky consistency
  2. Stir in the juice of 1 lime, mashed garlic, chopped scallions, cilantro, minced jalapeño and mix well.
  3. Transfer to a serving dish

JalapenosDeveining Jalapeños
Wear rubber gloves when handling fresh jalepeños. Any contact with the oils from them can cause burning, especially if you were to rub your face or even worse your eyes. Cut off the stem and cut open lengthwise and spread it out flat. Using the tip of your knife, scrape away the white inner veins and the seeds. The jalepeño is now ready to use. Make sure you wash all of the utensils that were used and any surfaces that were touched.
