Hummus Recipes

HummusWe have received so many requests for different kinds of Hummus Recipes that we decided to give Hummus its own section.

Hummus dip is a healthy alternative to dips made with sour cream or cream cheese. We used to buy it at the store until we started making it at home and realized how easy and inexpensive it was to make.

How to make Hummus

Making hummus is easy to do. It requires a food processor and some simple ingredients. You can make hummus and have it on the table in just 15 minutes. The two main ingredients are explained below.

Chick Peas (Garbanzo Beans) are the main ingredient in most hummus recipes. They have a very low glycemic index, which means they help to create steady blood sugar levels, and this is important for diabetics.

What is Tahini?

Tahini is the other main ingredient in hummus. It's basically sesame seeds ground into a paste. I guess you could call it sesame butter. When we first started making Hummus years ago, we couldn't find Tahini in the grocery store but now that most larger grocery chains have a health food or organic food section, we have been able to buy it without traveling to a specialty store.
