This is an absolutely delicious Mushroom Appetizer to serve your guests, especially around the holidays when you are wanting to serve something special.
A stuffed mushroom appetizer is something you might associate with an expensive party or wedding reception. Not so! You can make them yourself. This recipe takes a little more time than the others on this site but if you are looking for a special appetizer, then these delicious stuffed mushrooms are worth making.
Stuffed Mushroom Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 – pound medium fresh mushrooms
- 4 – Bacon slices cooked and diced
- 1/2 cup – minced onion
- 2 tablespoons – minced green pepper
- 1 teaspoon – Salt
- 1/8 teaspoon – Pepper
- 3 ounces – softened cream cheese
- 1/2 cup – fine dry bread crumbs, plain
- 1/4 cup – Hot water
Preparation:
Clean mushrooms under cold water, remove and dice the stems, set aside.
Fry bacon in a pan or use the microwave method below.
Saute onion, green pepper, and chopped mushroom stems until tender; drain out liquid.
Add salt and pepper.
Blend the softened cream cheese, bacon and vegetables in a bowl.
Press mixture firmly into mushroom caps allowing to mound over the top.
Place bread crumbs in a small bowl.
Turn filled mushroom caps upside down and press gently in the bread crumbs to coat tops.
Place in a 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking dish.
Add hot water to pan and bake, uncovered, 20 to 25 minutes at 325 degrees.
Makes about 2 1/2 dozen stuffed mushrooms.
