Spiced Nuts Recipe

Spiced nuts

This Spiced Nuts Recipe is a wonderful treat to serve your guests. The salty nuts are combined with sugar, butter and cardamom for a delicious holiday appetizer. I have to make more than we need because I can't stay out of them.

We wrap these up in decorative bags and hand them out to our guests after the party as take home gifts. You aren't limited to only using the nuts listed below. You can use your favorites. You can also just buy a can of unsalted mixed nuts and use them in this recipe.

Peanut Allergies

At one of our parties a few years ago, a guest called and said that he could come as long as we weren't preparing any food with peanuts, since he had a peanut allergy. So we left the peanuts out of this recipe. As it turns out the other nuts were roasted in peanut oil, so we sealed the nuts in a ziploc bag and saved them for another time.

Spiced Nuts

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 1 cup salted cashews
  • 1 cup peanuts (optional)
  • 1 cup salted almonds
  • 1 cup pecan halves

Preparation:

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter.
  2. Add one half of the sugar and stir over high heat until sugar is dissolved.
  3. Mix cardamom and remaining sugar in a large bowl and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium, add the cashews, almonds and pecans to butter mixture.
  5. Cook and stir until nuts are toasted, about 3 minutes.
  6. Add hot nuts to reserved cardamom/sugar mixture; toss to coat.
  7. Spread on foil to cool.
