Spiced Nuts Recipe

spice nuts for a partyThis Spiced Nuts Recipe is a wonderful treat to serve your guests. The salty nuts are combined with sugar, butter and cardamom for a delicious holiday appetizer. I have to make more than we need because I can't stay out of them.

We wrap these up in decorative bags and hand them out to our guests after the party as take home gifts. You aren't limited to only using the nuts listed below. You can use your favorites. You can also just buy a can of unsalted mixed nuts and use them in this recipe.

They make a great addition to a take home bag to give your guests. We usually make a bag with Eggnog cookies, spiced nuts and some Sugar cookies for each of our guests to take home with them.

Peanut Allergies

At one of our parties a few years ago, a guest called and said that he could come as long as we weren't preparing any food with peanuts, since he had a peanut allergy. So we left the peanuts out of this recipe.

Spiced Nuts

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup sugar, separate into two measurements
  • 2 tsp cardamom (ground)
  • 1 cup almonds, salted
  • 1 cup cashews, salted
  • 1 cup peanuts (optional)
  • 1 cup pecans (halves or pieces)

Preparation:

  1. Melt butter in a large pan
  2. Add half of the sugar and stir over high heat until it's dissolved.
  3. Mix remaining sugar and cardamom in a large bowl and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium, add the nuts into the pan.
  5. Stir and cook nuts until just toasted, about three minutes.
  6. Put hot nuts into the rest of the cardamom/sugar mixture in bowl; mix with a spoon to coat.
  7. Spread on baking pan or foil to cool.
