Thumb Print Cookies
You can substitute other ingredients for the jam, like chocolate kisses, dried cherries or dates. You can also bake the cookies without anything in the thumb print and fill with icing after they cool. For St. Patrick's day, you can add some mint jelly to the middle. For Fourth of July, you can add red food coloring to the batter and put blueberry preserves in the middle. Or don't put anything in the middle, let them cool, then put in some white icing. The possibilities are endless, just have fun with them.
